I'll be honest, learning a new language isn't easy, and speaking a tonal language like Mandarin is even more challenging. Even when you study the conventional way, it always feels like something's missing. And with Mandarin it's especially hard because of the sheer geographical and cultural distance... paid apps, ads everywhere, and none of the support you actually need. Yeah, I know...

If you're curious about Chinese culture or taking your first steps in the language, I built Pandarim to help with that. It's an independent project made to bring games and education together. The main idea is to show that learning Mandarin can be more practical and accessible.

The idea behind the site is to build your skills through practice — with games and drills. You can, for example, test your reading and reflexes in Pinyin Turbo. You can also challenge your visual memory in the Memory Game with Hanzi. With consistent practice, Chinese characters start to make sense in your head instead of looking like a wall of complex symbols. You can also train your handwriting in the Chinese Calligraphy game. And since pronunciation changes the meaning of words in this language, I built Tone Dictation — a game focused on training your ear so you can identify and tell apart Mandarin's tones in everyday speech. And if you want to prepare for the official exam, HSK 1 Exam Prep brings together a variety of exercises covering the entire level-1 vocabulary. And the best part? It's FREE!

Beyond practicing the basics of writing, reading, and listening, you're not studying alone. I know a bit of friendly competition always helps with focus and motivation, so I added a player ranking to the site. Every match you play earns you points, tracks your progress, and shows you other people leveling up right alongside you. This is a project built by one learner for other learners — the goal is simply to offer a useful tool for anyone who shares the drive to understand the Chinese language.
